From 1953: Here are winners of the Des Moines yo-yo finals in 1953. An accompanying story says more than 40 kids entered the contest at the Des Moines YMCA. Only the three on the left are identified. They are (left to right) Dennis Cornell, 13; Donald Carter, 15; and John Carr, 15. Carr reportedly did more than 500 consecutive loop-the-loops to take top honors.
